The short definition
A digital wardrobe is a searchable record of the clothes, shoes and accessories you own. Each piece is a photo with a few details attached, such as its category, colour, brand and season. Instead of remembering what is in the closet, you can look at all of it on a screen.
What goes in it
- A photo of each piece.
- Details that describe it: category (top, bottom, outerwear, shoes), colour, brand and season.
- Your own markers, such as favourites.
What a digital wardrobe is for
- Seeing everything you own in one place, and finding a piece in seconds.
- Building outfits from the clothes you already have, rather than from memory.
- Planning what to wear ahead of time, around the weather, your calendar and the occasion.
- Noticing which pieces you keep wearing and which ones never get used.
Digital wardrobe versus a shopping app
A shopping app shows you things to buy. A digital wardrobe starts from what you already own. That makes it a tool for wearing your clothes more, not for buying more of them.
What makes a wardrobe “AI”
In a plain digital wardrobe you tag every piece yourself. In an AI wardrobe the software does the sorting, and it can build outfits for you. It can also preview an outfit on a photo of you, which is called a virtual try-on.
How to start
Start small. Photograph the five pieces you wear most, then add more whenever you like, one photo or many at a time. A clear photo on a plain background gives the best result, and how to photograph your clothes shows how.
How WearDrobe does it
In WearDrobe you add photos with your camera or from your library. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC images work, and you can add several at once. WearDrobe classifies each piece, and you can correct the category, colour, brand or season at any time. Your wardrobe, photos, try-ons and chats are private to your account.
